New Year's Resolutions - how to keep them!

New Year's Resolutions - how to keep them!

By: Joanna-MariaComments: 0

The beginning of a new year is always a good time to take a look at how you are doing, what you might want to improve and therefore to make New Year's resolutions.

But you have probably also noticed that keeping up with your New Year's resolutions is not always easy. If things aren't going well for you, don't worry, you're not alone. According to statistics, it even appears that 80% of New Year's resolutions do not come true!

Perhaps the best resolution you can make this year is to stick with your New Year's resolutions...

That is why we have listed a number of tips to make this work...

New Year's resolutions: Keep it simple

Do you want to lose weight with yoga, make more time for friends and family, and stop smoking? Those are great intentions, but wanting too much right away can also be disastrous. Start with 1 thing you really want to change, so that you can give it all your attention.

New Year's resolutions: Start small

For example, do you want to save more money this year? Then don't immediately aim to set aside €500 per month, but start with €50 or €100 per month. And when you notice that this is going very easily, you can always increase it.

The same applies if you want to exercise more. You don't have to hit the gym every day right away. Start with a few days a week and once you get used to this you can go more often or do more exercises.

New Year's resolutions: Write down your goal(s)

Do not only write down your New Year's resolution(s), but also explain why you want to achieve it this year, and how you are going to do it. Keeping a list gives you something to look back on and helps you keep track of your progress.

New Year's resolutions: Reward yourself!

Have you stopped smoking for a month? Good job! Then you have earned a reward.

For example, keep a list of your goals and what you are allowed to do when you have achieved them. Or put the money that you would spend on a pack of cigarettes every week in a piggy bank, so after every month you have a nice amount for a night out or those new shoes that have been on your wish list for a while.

New Year's resolutions: Find a buddy

When you have a friend with whom you can exercise together, you can motivate each other to keep up the exercise and actually go to the gym. And of course it is also a lot more fun ;-)
