Yin yoga is a quiet meditative yoga style in which the postures are held for five minutes or longer. Yin yoga postures work on the connective tissue, tendons and ligaments instead of the muscles. This improves the circulation and flexibility in the joints, and improves the Qi flow in the meridians of the body. Yin yoga as taught by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers is intended as a supplement to the more active forms of yoga and exercise. Sarah Powers has developed Insight Yoga, a style that combines the Yin Yoga postures with some more active Yang Yoga exercise.
