Information

Sri Pattabhi Jois is one of the great yoga figures of our time. He brought Ashtanga yoga to the West a quarter century ago, and is the driving force behind its worldwide dissemination.

Here Jois outlines the ethical principles and philosophy underlying the discipline and explains its important terms and concepts. Next he guides the reader through the Sun Salutation, and its subsequent forty-two asanas, or poses. He describes in detail how to execute each pose and the benefits of each pose.

An indispensable handbook for yoga practitioners.

About Sri K. Pattabhi Jois

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915 - 2009) was born in India and lived in Mysore. He studied yoga under Sri T. Krishnamacharya from 1927 - 1945. In 1948 he founded the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. There is still yoga being taught using traditional methods as described by the former Maharishis of India (by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois' grandson Sharath Rangaswamy, who now runs the institute).
