First use
A PU (polyurethane) yoga mat is known for its excellent grip – even when your hands or feet are wet. The surface feels rough and dry, just as it should be. You don't have to do anything before you start: just roll it out and start your practice.
Smell
The PU layer itself has little odor. Sometimes you can notice a slight factory smell. Leave your mat rolled out for a few days in a well-ventilated place - then the smell will quickly disappear.
Maintenance
PU is sensitive to cleaning agents and excessive polishing. Keep it simple and mild, then your mat will stay beautiful the longest.
Only clean your mat when absolutely necessary – once every 10 sessions is often enough, unless you do hot yoga or sweat a lot during your practice.
Cleaning a PU yoga mat
- Use a small drop of dishwashing liquid or natural vinegar, strongly diluted with water
- Clean with a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge
- Work with lukewarm water and use as little moisture as possible. PU mats do not like wet treatments.
- Always allow the mat to dry completely before rolling up or storing it
- No washing machine – this damages the material
- No alcohol, oil-based products or aggressive cleaning agents
- Do not leave in the sun or near a heat source (such as a heater, hot car or stove)
