A yoga bolster is one of the yoga props that gives you good support in various yoga postures. This yoga bolster is mainly used with calm yoga styles, such as Yin Yoga. But also with Vinyasa yoga the bolster is used for example in the savasana.
A yoga bolster is an elongated and sturdy cushion that is filled with buckwheat chaff. They can also be filled with recycled plastic and polyester, such as the Manduka bolsters that we sell. The shape of a bolster is elongated and round or sometimes even rectangular.
The use of a bolster during yoga provides a deeper relaxation. The bolster is also used as extra support in your back, lower back, neck and arms and legs. It depends entirely on the yoga posture how you use the bolster. The yoga teacher always explains how you can best use it.
To give you an idea of when you use a bolster with different yoga postures, we list a few for you:
- Child's Pose (Balasana): put the bolster under your chest and head so that you can lean comfortably on it
- Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana): put the bolster under your head and your upper back
- Legs Up the Wall Pose (Viparita Karani): place the bolster against the wall, under your hips
- Corpse Pose (Savasana): what you like :-) You can put the bolster under your knees, under your back or even on your stomach
At Yogashop we sell Manduka's bolsters. These are environmentally friendly and they have a fine and sturdy filling. We sell both round and rectangular bolsters in all kinds of different colors and even with a print. So choose one that also fits nicely with your yoga mat.
When buying a bolster always pay attention to the filling, because a cotton filling is often just a bit too soft for good support. The length of a bolster of at least 55 cm is also important.
