First use
TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) is a light, soft and environmentally friendly material that is ready to use. You don't need to treat or work anything in: just roll it out and get started. The mat feels soft and comfortable, has good grip and is therefore ideal for beginners and yogis with sensitive joints.
Smell
TPE mats have little odor. You may notice a slight factory smell when unpacking, but this will quickly disappear if you let the mat air out for a few days.
Maintenance
TPE mats have a closed cell structure, which prevents dirt and moisture from penetrating the material. This makes them easy to keep clean – without any hassle.
TPE is biodegradable, and therefore somewhat more sensitive to the elements. Therefore, make sure that you do not expose your mat to heat and moisture for long periods of time.
Cleaning a TPE yoga mat
- After use, wipe your mat clean with a slightly damp cloth using only lukewarm water.
- Is your mat really dirty? Then add a small dash of natural vinegar to the water.
- Avoid soap, detergents, alcohol or oily products
- Always let the mat dry completely unrolled in an airy place
- No washing machine – this will damage the material
- Do not scrub with a hard brush or abrasive cleaner
- Do not place or use hard objects on the mat
- Keep your mat out of direct sunlight or heat (e.g. next to a heater or in a hot car)
- Store your mat in a cool, dry place. This will keep your mat fresh, rough and comfortable for a long time.
