Liefe makes bags from used materials, with a strong focus on creativity, sustainability, and a personal look. From vintage tent canvas and recycled canvas, we create bags that are practical and each have their own unique character.

The story behind Liefe

Liefe started in 2008 on Curaçao, when founder Frederieke moved to the island from the Netherlands with her family. What started as a creative project with a friend quickly grew into its own brand, with points of sale in various locations on Curaçao. The rugged coastline of the island was a major source of inspiration. During family outings, we searched for beautiful pieces of driftwood, and at home in the garage, hours were spent drilling, sanding, painting, and designing. That love for materials, handmade work, and original ideas still forms the foundation of Liefe. After six years on Curaçao, Frederieke returned to the Netherlands. In 2015, Liefe got a fresh start with its own webshop. The product range grew in the years that followed, and the recognizable Liefe bags, in particular, became increasingly well-known.

From used material to a unique bag

Reuse is an important part of Liefe. We make many bags from old tent fabric or recycled canvas. The material is cleaned by hand with water, and we remove the biggest stains without chemicals. Precisely because the material already has a life behind it, no two bags are the same. A small stain, a misaligned stitch, a patch, or a subtle color difference makes every bag unique. We do not hide these traces, but make them part of the bag's character.

Tough, practical and full of character

Liefe combines a cool, casual look with practical designs for everyday use. The collection includes shoppers, backpacks, crossbody bags, festival bags, and yoga bags, among others. The Liefe YogaBag is also made from vintage tent canvas. The bag is spacious enough for a yoga mat, yoga block, and towel, for example, and features an adjustable shoulder strap as well as handy inner and outer pockets. Due to the recycled tent canvas, every YogaBag looks just a little bit different.

Made conscious

At Liefe, reuse is central: by reusing existing materials, tent fabric and canvas get a second life as bags. We also take the environment into account during cleaning and painting. In this way, Liefe shows that sustainability and a distinct, personal style go perfectly together. No mass production where every bag is the same, but items where the history of the material is actually allowed to remain visible. Liefe is a Dutch brand by Frederieke, based in Zandvoort, where creativity, reuse, and love for unique materials come together.
